Solutions Festival | Community Action Project Presentation on Youth Participation

At the Solutions Festival, participants of School for Social Transformation (SST) 8.0 stepped forward to present community-driven ideas shaped through learning, reflection, and lived experience. The next presentation was by Abdul Muneer, who shared his Community Action Project titled “Empowering Youth Through Grama Sabha Participation.”

About the Project

Abdul’s project emerged from his observation of how young people remain largely absent from local self-governance spaces, despite being one of the most powerful forces for social change. In many communities, youngsters are unaware of the role and importance of the Grama Sabha, resulting in low participation and limited representation of youth concerns.

This gap often means that issues related to education, employment, skill development, and basic facilities go unheard. The presentation highlighted how this lack of awareness leads to the exclusion of youth voices and weakens democratic justice at the grassroots level.

The Proposed Solution

The project proposes strengthening youth participation through legal awareness and capacity-building. Abdul outlined practical steps such as conducting awareness sessions on the Grama Sabha, organising workshops on constitutional rights, and holding mock Grama Sabha meetings to build confidence among youngsters.

By creating spaces for dialogue and learning, the initiative aims to empower young people to raise their concerns, engage in discussions, and take part in local decision-making processes.

Why It Matters

This presentation reflected a critical shift from passive citizenship to active participation. Abdul’s project demonstrated how constitutional values can be translated into everyday civic action by enabling young people to understand their rights and responsibilities.

It served as a reminder that democracy becomes meaningful only when all voices are heard especially those of the youth, who carry the energy and vision for the future.

A Step Forward

As part of the Solutions Festival, this presentation represented a commitment to strengthening grassroots democracy. By equipping youngsters with knowledge and confidence, the project lays the foundation for inclusive governance, social justice, and a future where youth actively shape their communities.
