Solutions Festival | Community Action Project Presentation on Healthy Family Dynamics

At the Solutions Festival, participants of School for Social Transformation (SST) 8.0 continued to share community-driven ideas shaped by lived realities and deep reflection. The next presentation was by Murshid, who introduced his Community Action Project titled “Healthy Family Dynamics among Adolescents, Youth, and Parents.”

About the Project

Murshid’s project emerged from observing the growing communication gap between adolescents and parents in his community in Ramanattukara, Kerala. The transitional phase of adolescence often brings conflicts around independence, emotional expression, and decision-making. When families lack safe spaces for open dialogue, these differences can lead to misunderstanding, tension, and emotional distance.

This project focuses on adolescents, youth, and parents from nearby households, recognising that family is the first space where emotional well-being and dignity are shaped.

The Proposed Solution

The initiative works with ten local families to build emotionally safe home environments rooted in trust, presence, and mutual care. Murshid outlined a phased approach that begins with engaging adolescents and youth through reflective retreats, helping them identify and articulate their challenges.

This is followed by a parents’ retreat that focuses on emotional awareness, communication, and mindful parenting. The project then brings both groups together through guided interactions, encouraging honest conversations and rebuilding understanding within families.

By emphasising quality time, active listening, and offline connection, the project aims to transform homes into spaces of safety and dignity.

Why It Matters

This presentation highlighted that social transformation begins within families. Murshid’s project reminds us that healthy communities cannot exist without healthy relationships at home.

By addressing emotional gaps between generations, the initiative strengthens not only individual well-being but also the social fabric of the community. It affirms that communication is not just a skill, but a foundation for trust, growth, and harmony.

A Step Forward

As part of the Solutions Festival, this presentation stood as a commitment to nurturing emotionally resilient families. By creating spaces for reflection, dialogue, and healing, the project lays the foundation for stronger relationships between adolescents and parents shaping a future where understanding replaces conflict and homes become places of safety and growth.
