Empowering Future Global Citizens through Public Speaking and Group Discussions

As part of our mission to inspire young minds and shape tomorrow’s compassionate leaders, The Ignite Foundation recently conducted a transformative series of workshops at Mar Baselios Public School, Kottayam, Kerala. Led by our dedicated facilitators, Sulfeeker Aly P K and Naji Mahfood, this workshop focused on equipping students with essential skills and awareness to navigate and address global and local challenges.

Workshop Highlights:

  1. Breaking the Ice
To start the day on a high note, an engaging icebreaker allowed students to connect with each other and set a collaborative tone.
  2. Mastering Group Discussion
The workshop introduced the art of group discussions, emphasizing respectful dialogue and the role of shared understanding. Students practiced articulating their thoughts and listening actively—skills essential for effective communication.
  3. Reflecting on Key Issues
Through both public speaking and group discussion, participants explored important topics such as poverty and hunger. Students shared personal reflections, sparking conversations on inclusivity and recognizing the pressing need for positive change.
  4. Image Theatre
A unique segment involved students using Image Theatre techniques to visualize the challenges related to education, poverty, and hunger. This exercise encouraged them to view these issues from diverse perspectives, fostering empathy and inclusivity.
  5. Building Core Skills
The sessions were designed to hone critical skills such as active listening, respectful communication, and critical thinking—fundamental to impactful public speaking and group discussions.
  6. Envisioning a Better World
In an imaginative exercise, students articulated their visions for an ideal society, expressing their hopes for a more inclusive and equitable world.
  7. Inspirational Storytelling
By sharing the story of Malala Yousafzai, students were inspired to reflect on their own potential as global citizens. This moment encouraged them to envision their roles in driving change.
  8. Harvesting Insights
To close the day, students reflected on their learnings, leaving the session with a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to contribute positively to their communities.

Workshop Outcomes
The students emerged from this experience as budding global citizens, equipped with enhanced public speaking and group discussion skills, as well as a deeper understanding of local and global issues. With this foundation, they are now better prepared to engage with empathy, lead with knowledge, and envision a more connected world.
